Shouting for Scouting in Gordon |
|
|
Welcome to the Homepage of Gordon Area Scouts. Browse a while and find out more of Scouting in the North East of Scotland. We in the Gordon Area have a long history of Scouting, going back even further than B-P's book "Scouting for boys". One of our Vice Presidents, the Lord Forbes remembers B-P staying at Castle Forbes and discussing "Ideas for Scouting" with his father. The location of the first troop to be formed has long since disappeared into the 'mist of legend' and will forever remain so. A young blacksmith, Frank Robb started up a 'Scout Troop' based on B-P's book "Aids to Scouting", as long ago as 1906 - that was before B-P ran his experimental camp on Brownsea Island in 1907! The first meeting of the County Association took place at the Y.M.C.A. in Aberdeen on 19th February 1910.
